Over 20 vehicles had their car windows smashed in the space of around 2 hours in Essex last night (3rd October).
In what is thought to be a completely random attack, dozens of car owners woke up this morning to find that their side windows had been smashed.
In a Facebook group called ‘Essex Crime’ one victim posted:
“So last night between 2130 – 2230 some **** thought that it would be a good idea to smash the windows of five cars down my road randomly, including mine.
“Trying to explain to my 3-year-old boy why there is glass all over his car seat is quite sad.
“It sounds like loads of cars have been done.
“If you have CCTV please check it (Wickford/Basildon/Noak Bridge).
“Let’s see if we can find some footage of the feral scum”.
Some of the victims have said that their insurance companies have advised them that they will have to wait up to five working days to have their vehicles repaired.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said:
“We received a number of calls that the windows of cars and houses in Billericay had been damaged between around 10.20pm and 10.50pm on Thursday 3 October.
“The incidents took place in the Beams Way, Mill Road and Crays Hill areas.
“The suspects were believed to be travelling in a van and using a catapult to cause the damage.
“Officers carried out a search of the area but the suspects were not found.
Enquiries are ongoing”.
