WATCH Police Officer Thwarts Escape Attempt from Emergency Ambulance in Manchester

Manchester, 9th May 2024 – A police dashcam captured a gripping moment yesterday when a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officer from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) tackled a prisoner attempting to escape after being arrested.

The incident unfolded after the suspect, detained for multiple offences, broke out from an emergency ambulance.

The video, which can be viewed at the end of this article, shows the determined effort by the officer, identified only as XTG1 from RPU 3, as he successfully apprehended the fleeing individual.

The prisoner had been initially arrested for theft, drugs, and weapons offences before making a bold escape attempt.

Greater Manchester Police Traffic shared the moment on X (formerly Twitter), commenting:

“Who says we only chase people in cars? Having been arrested in the back of an ambulance for theft, drugs & weapons offences, this perp thought he could get away.

“What he hadn’t counted on was XTG1 from RPU 3 being ready to tackle him.”

This incident underscores the challenges and risks police officers face daily.

The officer, identified only as XTG1 from RPU 3, demonstrated his quick response and physical intervention, preventing a potentially dangerous fugitive from evading justice.

It also highlights the unexpected situations that officers must adapt to, extending beyond high-speed car chases to foot pursuits and tactical on-foot captures.
