Not that proof was ever really needed, but the Windrush scandal only serves to prove that there is ZERO common sense in politics
I should point out, before I start waffling, that I am 100% apolitical.
Don’t get me wrong, if there was a ‘Common Sense Party’, then I would be shouting its praises. But I became tired and fed up of the predictable rhetoric being spouted out from the three main political parties a long time ago.
Common sense is based on REAL WORLD experiences. It is based on actually seeing and doing something, and then making a decision based on those experiences.
I haven’t been to University, but I have served in the emergency services, the armed forces, volunteered for the RNLI and started up several businesses (Some succeeded, and some failed).
However, if there was a University of ‘common sense’ then I feel that anyone who has served in the emergency services, armed forces, prison service or NHS would have, by virtue of their occupation, graduated from the Halls of Common Sense.
I am a firm believer that you cannot learn about the world, by merely reading about what goes on in it, or by watching the news.
I believe that you have to go out and experience the world before you can make your mind up regarding what is potentially ‘good’ or ‘bad’ when it comes to making ‘big’ decisions.
For example, if I wanted to learn how to effectively lead a platoon in the armed forces, then no amount of literature is going to make me a good leader.
A good leader is carved from the experiences which they have had, rather than from the books which they have read (in my own humble opinion of course).
The same applies to the murky world of business; the only way to know how to run a business, is by setting one up!

Taking the Windrush scandal as a prime example or where there is a complete lack of common sense;
Everything that I am going to say, is based purely on what my instinct tells me, so don’t take any of the following as ‘fact’.
Now, I am guessing that ‘the powers that be’ decided that, because most people believe that our fellow citizens should only be in this country legally, then they (you know who) thought it would be a good idea if they ramped up the investigation into people who might be here illegally.
When I say “people who might be here illegally” I am specifically referring to individuals who have entered this country illegally or who have entered this country specifically to commit crime (yes, it does happen! When I was a Copper, I saw it with my own eyes!).
I am fairly confident that most people would agree, that the aforementioned categories of individual should not be in this country. ESPECIALLY not the type of hate-preaching individual who wants to blow us all up…
So how on earth did this sentiment regarding ensuring that people are here legally get misinterpreted and twisted so badly?
How on earth did someone think that ‘going after’ people who were INVITED into this country in the post-war era could ever be conceived as a good idea!?
How on earth did anyone think, that setting ‘targets’ for such a course of action was in any way appropriate!? Targets are for businesses, targets are not for human lives!
I do not consider myself to be intellectually ‘superior’ to anyone.
So if I can get it, then why can’t the supposed ‘elite’ of this country grasp such a basic and fundamental principle of common sense and decency!?
When I signed up to fight for this Country (in the armed forces as opposed to the Police), as most of my family have done, then I did so because I believed that what we, as a country, stood for was worth fighting for.
But if I went back in time, and spoke to the 16-year old me just before I was shipped off to basic training in the military, then I would probably of told myself not to be so naive.

You can almost imagine being in the Home Office meetings when it was decided that the public would ‘like’ the fact that illegal immigrants should be removed.
And then you can imagine the shock and horror of the civil servants (not the politicians) in the meeting, as this sentiment morphed into a target driven ‘objective’.
As mentioned above, I have spent an equal amount of time in the public sector, as I have in the private sector.
I am therefore quite confident, that the men & women of the civil service would have cringed at the thought of their colleagues having to go hunting for people who might end up helping them achieve the targets which they had been given.
But going back to common sense; no-one with a half decent thought process would ever really conclude that someone who has been invited here, almost 60 years ago, should now have to explain their presence in this country!?
A country that was, in part, built upon their hard work.
Its an embarrassment and its a sure indicator of the fact that there is no common sense present when you start to study the upper-echelons of those whom are entrusted to ‘Govern’ us (in my own humble opinion of course).
