West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has asked motorists to be more considerate when parking behind their vehicles after pictures were shared on social media of a car that had parked bumper-to-bumper with an emergency ambulance.

In a tweet shared on @OfficialWMAS, a spokesperson for the service said:

“If we could take a minute to remind everyone of the importance of leaving space behind an ambulance.

“Parking inconsiderately could restrict access to specialist equipment and even delay treated of a patient if crews can’t access important supplies”.

Followers were quick to share their support for WMAS with one follower commenting:

“Why anyone would do this is beyond me surely it’s common sense”.

Another user said: “What is the matter with people – I hope your patient was ok”.

Most ambulances will have signage on the rear of the vehicle, advising other motorists how much space they need to get access to their vehicle once it has been parked.
