A woman in the US has been arrested following a high-speed pursuit after she drove off during a traffic stop after claiming that she ‘desperately’ needed to use the toilet.

Emily Sindt was pulled over by patrol officers in Enid, Oklahoma, on Tuesday (21st) morning after officers spotted that she was driving her car whilst not wearing her seatbelt.

Sindt initially stopped for the officers, giving them time to walk over to the driver’s window and engage Ms Sindt in conversation. But as the stop went on, Sindt told the officers that she desperately needed to ‘poop’ and that it was her ‘f**king birthday‘.

Suspecting that all was not well, officers carried out some checks on Ms Sindt and it was not long before they learnt that not only was Sindt wanted on a warrant, but that she was also driving on a suspended licence.

Relaying the information to Sindt, the police officer said: ‘You have warrants from Woods County and they are coming to get you’. Sindt replied by saying: ‘no they are not!’ before starting her car and leaving the scene.

During the pursuit that followed, Sindt reached speeds of over 70 mph in 30 mph residential zones. After a short while, Sindt was stopped and subsequently arrested by the officers.

Body-worn video footage captures Sindt asking the officers if she could go to the toilet in the officer’s patrol car. She said: ‘Can I poop in your car, man?’.

Officers from the Enid Police Department charged Sindt with eluding, reckless driving, driving under suspension, driving with no seat belt, no insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the forces said ‘everybody poops’, but ‘that’s no reason to commit a felony’.

The spokesperson added:

“Officer Geoffrey McBride stopped Emily Jean Owings Sindt in the 300 block of East Elm about 9 am when he saw she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt.

“The woman explained it was her birthday, had lost her license and told the officer she had to ‘poop’. None of which got her out of the traffic stop.

“A check with dispatch found Owings Sindt’s license was revoked and she had a warrant out of Woods and Grant counties. While waiting for this information, McBride saw the woman bouncing up and down in her seat and heard her yell several times more that she had to ‘poop’.

“McBride explained that if the two counties wouldn’t extradite she would be cited and released if she could find a ride.

The statement continued: “Owings Sindt was speaking with Officer Tom Rhyne when dispatch radioed Woods County would extradite. Owings Sindt then revved her engine, cursed the officers at the scene and sped away with her tires squealing.

“She led officers on a pursuit for several blocks, reaching speeds of 70mph in a 30mph zone, past an elementary school, through an intersection with a 4-way stop and stopping at 16th and Randolph.

“Owings Sindt was taken into custody by Officers Andy Morris and McBride. During an inventory of her vehicle, a glass meth pipe with a burnt residue inside was found. She was booked on complaints of eluding, reckless driving, driving under suspension, no seat belt, no insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Everybody poops, we know, but that’s no reason to commit a felony and put in danger the lives of officers, other motorists and pedestrians in the area. Also, be sure to buckle up. Seat belts save lives.”
