Footage has emerged on social media of the moment brave Londoners rallied together and confronted a gang of armed thieves as they robbed a jeweller in west London.
In total, five men have been arrested after the moped riders brandished what appeared to be machetes during the violent robbery.
Police have confirmed that a group armed with knives, a hammer and a crowbar targetted the family-run business during rush hour on Monday evening.
The footage (below) shows brave members of the public working together as they chase down the suspects who attempt to flee the scene on foot.
One of the males was arrested at the scene, two men near Camden Market a short time later and two other men in north-west London at around 18:10 hours after police swarmed the area.
Although the number of robberies in London has decreased following the hard work of the Trident Proactive Team, some violent criminals are still taking their chances and seem happy to risk being sent to prison for a considerable period of time as the authorities crack down on moped gangs.
The footage shows the criminals trying to flee the scene after walking out of the jewellers whilst a panic alarm sounds in the background.
However, one brave male can be seen running at the thieves despite initially being heavily outnumbered.
More and more passers-by then join the effort to try and stop the criminals and they successfully detain one of the suspects as his cohorts leave him and flee the scene.
Yet more Londoners then gather around the suspect who has now been detained on the floor in order to prevent him from getting away and in order to deter the rest of the gang returning.
At one point, a member of the public follows three of the suspects in their vehicle as the thieves try to get away on one of the mopeds.
It’s one of these suspects who subsequently gets caught by the onlookers.
The civilians in the car then act to deter the other suspects who are on the moped from trying to potentially fight the members of the public who have detained the thief.
