The story of a lone Police Officer who was conducting a traffic stop when three males started to beat him before trying to drag him into an adjacent forrest

Seeing as ‘Land Sharks’ (Police Dogs) have been in the emergency services related news recently, we thought that we would share this story with you as a means of highlighting just how important Police Dogs can be, not only in the fight against crime, but also when trying to keep Police Officers safe from harm:

Most Police Officers will tell you that the bravery of a highly trained Police Dog makes them one of the best companions to have by your side when out on patrol.

A Police Dog will run into extreme danger without any hesitation or regard for its own safety and that is exactly what happened in this case.

Back in May 2015, Deputy Todd Frazier stopped his Police vehicle in order to check out a suspicious car that was parked up next to a densely wooded area and that appeared to only have one occupant slumped over the wheel.

Leaving his Police Dog in the back of his patrol car, he approached the male in order to investigate a bit further in relation to why the male had stopped in a secluded and isolated area.

It was a trap. Set by a gang of deranged criminals who specifically were on the look-out for Police Officers to attack in a mindless act of pure evil.

As Deputy Frazier approached the vehicle, two males who had been hiding in the woods ran towards him from his rear in order to attack the Deputy as he checked on the ‘welfare’ of the driver on the car, but who was also with the gang.

Being outnumbered and not having time to grab his sidearm, Deputy Frazier was quickly overpowered and was set upon by the three delinquent males who clearly intended to cause the Deputy grave harm.

They repeatedly and savagely beat the Deputy, whilst telling him that there were going to cut his throat.

Deputy Frazier fought back in vain in order to try and stop the prolonged and sustained attack.

During the struggle, Deputy Frazier managed to press the release button on his fob which meant that his loyal four-legged partner, Lucas, managed to jump from the Police car and immediately ran towards the stricken deputy.

Local Police Chief Deputy Don Brass, at the time said:

“they told him that they were going to slit his throat, and they were dragging him towards the woods”

Deputy Frazier recounted the event to the local press: “He knew. I could hear him coming. I couldn’t see anything because the blood was all in my eyes, but I could hear him coming, growling and making these sounds – he sounded like a wolf”.

“I thought ‘now he’s gonna get you”.

Brave PD Lucas unleashed his full force on the attackers before they even had a chance to realise that the Police Dog was ‘inbound’. By all accounts, Lucas managed to severely injure the attackers.

“we don’t know how many he got; we just know that he had blood all over him” Sheriff Ricky Adam said of the dogs heroic actions.

“I had three people on me, and I am not a very big man” Frazier said as he recalled the incident. “And luckily, thank GOd, I had lucas here, and I had a button on my belt that I wear and when I hit the button Lucas jumped out of the car and attacked all three of them and they ran away. That’s why he’s my hero”.

Chief Deputy Don Brass described the incident as a “very near miss” and that there is no doubt in his mind that the three males were intent on murdering the Deputy.

Both Frazier and Lucas ended up getting injured during the attack.

Lucas tore a ligament protecting the Deputy and lost several teeth during the incident. But he received first class veterinary care and made a full recovery.

Deputy Frazier sustained a deep cut to his forehead and a number of other minor injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was released the following day.

It is thought that the weapon used on the deputy was some kind of saw/axe.

The Chief Deputy said that the incident was a direct and targeted attack against his Officer and in a statement at the time added: “We’ve been stressing this for months now. Its no different from last week. We get a ‘BOLO’ (be on the lookout) from the State alerting us that the ‘Black Gangster Disciples have put out a ‘shoot on sight’ for Police Officers.

It hits us hard. We’re not a large Agency and all these guys have families. This could happen to any one of them. The threat is here and the possibility is real”.

This incident just goes to show the threat that Police Officers all over the world face on a daily basis.

You will always hear in the news about incidents whereby Police Officers are criticised for their actions, but you rarely hear about the backdrop against which their decisions are often based upon past experiences & ‘lessons learnt’.

Can a Law Enforcement Officer be blamed for feeling slightly jumpy when confronted with a situation that could easily lead to them losing their life? Of course, mistakes have been made in the past, but rarely do we hear from the civilian press about the thousands of incidents each year whereby Police Officers are severely wounded following an attack.

Not just in this country, but around the world.
