Thames Valley Police has confirmed that an officer who was dismissed from the force has been reinstated following a successful appeal to the independent Police Appeals Tribunal.
On Tuesday 7th May, Sgt Colin Travi was reinstated to the force with immediate effect.
On 13 September 2017, Sgt Travi was dismissed without notice from the force after an independent chair ruled that his actions following an incident on 16 August 2016 at Abingdon police station amounted to gross misconduct.
The incident related to the restraint of a man in custody and use of force in this matter.
Thames Valley Police have not released any further details in relation to the original incident back in 2016 that led to Sgt Travi’s dismissal.
On Tuesday, the review panel found that the original finding of gross misconduct was unreasonable and unfair.
The review panel also found that Sgt Travi’s use of force during the incident was reasonable in the circumstances.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police confirmed that Sgt Travi has been granted two weeks special leave in order for him to make arrangements for his return to work.
