A police officer has been injured after being dragged by a vehicle that attempted to make off from officers during a traffic stop in Southchurch, Southend.
The attention of the officers had been drawn to a Toyota Auris after they believed that it was being driven on a public road without any insurance.
Once officers had pulled the vehicle over, one of them attempted to remove the keys from the ignition.
As the officer leant into the vehicle to remove the keys, the driver floored it and drove off, dragging the police officer with him.
After a short pursuit, the second officer was also injured when the driver of the Toyota reversed over him.
A stinger was used on the vehicle, and it came to a stop in Eastern Avenue.
Both officers suffered minor injuries, and a male was arrested on suspicion of assault.
The driver, a 40-year-old man from Shoeburyness, was arrested on suspicion of assault, dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed, driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

It’s about time the judiciary and government got behind the Police and gave long sentences to assaults on Police and emergency services, it is now getting out of hand and there is no respect for Police or Emergency services
Kate I agree with what you say in your comment. But i think that any assault whether it be on the police or the general public the judiciary and the government the assailants should be given long sentences .In fact I would like to see the death sentence brought back so that the criminals would think twice before they carry any sort of weapon with them be it knives, guns or anything they can kill a human being with.
