Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses after an emergency ambulance crew was attacked on Tuesday night.
One male was arrested in what has been described as an ‘appaling’ attack on the West Midlands Ambulance Service crew. During the attack, a paramedic was allegedly threatened with a metal bar.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that they received a call to a property in Blurton at 19:55 hours where the caller was reporting that a man had collapsed.
However, upon arrival at the location, a male became aggressive towards the emergency ambulance crew, meaning that the medics had to call for urgent assistance from local police units.
During the incident, it is alleged that a male threatened one of the paramedics with a metal bar and that he also assaulted one of the crew.
A 40-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested nearby on suspicion of affray and assault of an emergency worker.
He was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
WMAS Chief Executive, Anthony Marsh, said:
“This appalling incident beggars belief at a time when the whole country is being asked to protect its NHS in the middle of the pandemic we currently find ourselves in.
“We will work with the police and do everything possible to ensure justice is done in this case as I will not tolerate any attacks on my members of staff.”
