Officers were called to Knights Close, Hackney, at 21:43 hours yesterday evening following reports made to the police of a domestic disturbance at a residential address.
A 28-year-old male was reported to be armed with knives and making threats to kill.
Owing to the threat posed by the male, specialist armed officers attended the scene along with local units.
During the incident, once officer sustained a stab injury. Firearms officers were deployed and a male was shot by firearms officers.
The male was taken to an east London hospital where he currently remains in a life-threatening condition.
The officers injury is not believed to be life-threatening and the officer was not hospitalised.
