Portsmouth Police have confirmed that they have arrested a 15-year-old male after a video emerged on social media of a cat being hit.
The mindless act of animal cruelty received a considerable amount of public condemnation after it was widely circulated after being uploaded.
A spokesperson for Portsmouth Police said:
‘We’re aware of a video on social media which shows a cat being hit in #Portsmouth.
‘Officers have now arrested a 15-y/o boy on suspicion of an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
‘He’s currently in police custody.
‘Were you there at the time? Call 101, ref 44190180705′.
There have been two videos circulating on social media recently of cats being abused, including one where a male kicks a cat.
It is not clear at this stage which video the male referred to by Portsmouth Police has been arrested in connection with.
