The Met Police has released an image of a man they want to speak to after a female police officer was assaulted in Soho.

On Wednesday 4th November, officers from the West End Central Proactive Partnership Team were on duty patrolling in Soho along Old Compton Street, W1, in preparation for bars and pubs closing at 2200hrs, before national Covid restrictions coming into effect from midnight.

At approximately 22:05 hours, a member of the public was arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour at the junction of Old Compton Street with Frith Street, W1D.

As officers moved the arrested individual away from the crowd which had gathered along Frith Street towards Romilly Street, the officer was struck on the back of her neck by a glass bottle.

Investigating officer, PC Jack Greaves, said: “This was both a cowardly and dangerous action that could have had much more serious consequences for the officer.

“Thankfully, she was not seriously harmed.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 5926/04Nov (Metropolitan Police), or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111

I am confident that someone will know who this person is and I would ask them to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“Likewise, if you recognise yourself in this image do the right thing now and come forward.

“I am aware that this incident has been widely shared on social media, I am still very keen to hear from anyone who has information that could identify those involved.”

“I also want to offer a reminder that police officers are just like you, we put ourselves in harm’s way to protect you. No officer should have to face being assaulted at work.”

We need your help. As former emergency services & armed forces personnel, we pride ourselves on bringing you important, fast-moving and breaking news stories which are free from the negative bias which is often directed at the emergency services by some sections of the mainstream media.

One of the reasons we started 'Emergency Services News' was because we became tired of reading badly informed stories about the emergency services which seemed only ever to highlight negative aspects of the job.

We want to be the unheard voice of the remarkable men and women who serve in the emergency services, NHS and armed forces. And with around 500k page views each month, we are getting there!

As income from ads, the mainstay source of income for most publishers, continues to decline; we need the help of our readers.
