A group of firefighters are cycling almost 1,000 miles to support two charities close to their hearts.
The cyclists from New Cross Fire Station are taking on the Land’s End to John O’Groats challenge in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support on 1 September.
It will take eight days as they cover 980 miles travelling from Cornwall to Scotland.
As part of the trip, they will be detoured to the Firefighters Charity centres in Devon and Cumbria.
Firefighter Paul Woods, who is taking part and has organised the trip, said they had chosen the two charities as they have had colleagues supported by the Fire Fighters Charity and because, sadly, most of us have experience of cancer.
“We know this will be a massive challenge as we are not professional cyclists, so we are expecting very long days in the saddle.
“We are looking forward to it, but the map looks like it’s getting bigger each time we see it!
“It’s a once in a lifetime chance to complete a challenge of this scale.”
