Diane Abbott’s Son has been charged with two counts of assault over alleged attacks on police officers during a disturbance that was reported at the Foreign Office.
James Abbott-Thompson was arrested on Friday afternoon last week after officers were called to the Foreign Officer in Westminster.
He was later charged with two counts of assault by beating an emergency services worker and a public order offence.
During a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Abbott-Thompson was accused of spitting at and punching one police officer as well as biting the thumb of another.
He was bailed to appear back in front of magistrates in February.
Diane Abbott is hoping to become the Home Secretary should Labour win the General Election that is to be held on 12th December.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said:
‘James Adam Abbott-Thompson, 28, was charged on Sunday 1st December with two counts of assault by beating of an emergency services worker.
‘He was further charged with an offence under Section 4 of the Public Order Act.
“He appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 2nd December.
‘He was granted bail, and next appears at City of London Magistrates’ Court on 7th February.’
The alleged assaults are said to have taken place after Abbott-Thompson arrived at the Foreign Office building and asked to speak to someone, who was not present.
New laws were introduced last year in an attempt to try and protect emergency services & NHS from being attacked.
The Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences Act) came into law in November 2018.
Ms Abbott’s office has been contacted for comment.

And has she intervened on his behalf, has she blamed the officers, has she done anything wrong?
How old is the child?
? O
He’s not a child is he..
He’s a adult.. And his mum hasn’t help him escape justice… So.. I’d say she’s done the right thing in letting our justice system deal with it.
Unless it’s a pro Conservative post, or sagging other party’s off its
a opps something whent wrong
Type site it seems
Most people don’t kick off over being told that someone isn’t available unless they were there as arranged & have been treated rudely. I suspect there is a HUGE amount more to this story than is being told.
Given the utter vileness aimed towards Diane Abbott & the rampant racism in the tory party I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a set up job to try to portray Labour in a bad light.
However Diane Johnson hasn’t sought to ‘help him out’ or dodge his responsibilities – unlike say Stanley Johnson & his pathetic man child.
Bit of a non story from a site that’s supposed to be for the emergency services… you know, the ones that the tories have decimated over the last 9 years?
The two police officers who were assaulted are in the emergency services. We have a whole section of our website dedicated to recording the vile attacks against our emergency services
It will all come out when the matter comes to Court
Oh, and if he’s been charged, why aren’t you using his mugshot rather than a very bad grainy old photo (looks like it was taken on a phone camera)?
Oh, and I’d look up the dictionary definition of ‘beating’ if I were you too – nothing like being a drama llama eh?
The word ‘beating’ is taken from the law under which it is alleged that these crimes have been committed. The Met police have not released a ‘mug shot’
The apple never fall far from the tree
Looks like there’s a lot of sympathy on here for him, well not from me, hope the officers are ok
He crime should fit the punishment
I’d be equally worried about his mother becoming home security
God help us if they ever happens
