Merseyside Police have confirmed that armed officers have shot a woman after they responded to reports of a woman who was armed with a knife.
Officers were called at 13.50 hours today (9th July) to Cairns Street in Toxteth.
Officers attended the scene, including armed response vehicles, and police shot a female.
She suffered an injury to her upper body, and she has been taken to hospital for treatment.
As is standard procedure with police shootings, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
North Hill Street in Toxteth is currently closed, and police remain at the scene.
North West Ambulance Service has confirmed that a Hazardous Area Response Team unit, a rapid response vehicle, emergency ambulance, advanced paramedic and tactical commander attended the scene.
