Often during exercises, search and rescue teams can be called into action when they are already operating in an area where someone needs help.
On this occasion, the Inverness Coastguard helicopter crew were already out on a training exercise when they came across a dog that had fallen down the side of a mountain that needed some help.
The dog, who had been missing for 48 hours during some recent storms, was spotted by the aircrew on a narrow ledge around 200ft up from the ground.
As the helicopter crew were already flying overhead, they put their training into practice in order to rescue the stricken dog
The aircrew successfully managed to rescue the dog from certain death, as there were no other means of getting to the dog at that time other than by air.
It was only by sheer luck that the dog was spotted by the coastguard helicopter in the first place, as the aircrew had been holding off from
Little ‘Ben’ who is a Cavachon (mix of King Charles cavalier spaniel and bichon
The dog made a full recovery and was reunited with its owner a short time later.
