Video footage has emerged on social media of the moment that several brave Metropolitan Police Officers took on a male who was armed with a machete at Tulse Hill Station, London.
In the footage (below) a male can be seen with a machete raised above his head as he walks towards police officers whilst pointing at the officers with his left hand.
Out of view, the officers challenge the male who continues to hold the machete above his head and aimed towards the approaching officers.
Several seconds later, one of the officers fires his taser at the male who drops to the floor and drops the machete as a result of being incapacitated by the taser.
The Officer who fired the taser then ensures that the male remains on the
Train passengers who witnessed the ordeal can be heard discussing how large the machete is and are heard talking about how shocked they are at witnessesing what had just happened.
The brave actions of the officers have attracted widespread praise and admiration from people both inside and outside of the emergency services family.
The footage is a stark reminder as to the importance of Tasers when it comes to taking on armed suspects.
Ollie Cochran, Professional Standards Secretary for the Metropolitan Police Federation said:
“If you want to see professionalism from MP Fed members – it’s right here. This shows the type of threat from weapons our members encounter on a daily basis”.
John Apter, National Chair of the Police Federation of England & Wales said:
“Professional and proportionate response to an extremely dangerous situation.
“Yet again, Taser shows how effective it can be, who knows what this intervention has prevented.
“Great work by the officers, well done!”
BBC Radio 2 Presenter, Jeremy Vine simply said:
“Big up the Tulse Hill taser squad”.
