WATCH: Woman Calls 999 To Wish Police A ‘Happy New Year’
A lot of people tend to get excited when new years eve comes around and unless you have young children, then chances are that you will probably be out celebrating.
However, one lady, who is clearly a fan of the police, decided to dial 999 in order to wish the police a ‘happy new year’.
The 999 Call Handler who took the call was no-doubt slightly caught off guard by the bizarre message and simply wished the caller a happy new year as well.
A tweet shared on the @MPSHillingdon twitter page said:
“999, what’s your emergency?”
“This caller wanted to wanted to wish us a ‘Happy New Year” What she has actually done, has taken up a line, preventing someone with a real emergency getting through.
“Whilst some people might see this as a ‘nice’ gesture, the reality is that calls such as this one only clog up the 999 system”.
If someone finds themself in a genuine emergency and in need of the police, they might find that they are unable to get through to a 999 call handler straight away if there’s loads of calls already waiting.
If you really want to wish the police a happy new year, then why not just tweet them instead?
Calling 999 in order to share your best wishes for a new year is 100% not the best way to pass on your message of goodwill.
