Attackers Stab Soldier And Throw Acid Over His Face During Violent Attack
A soldier has been slashed with a blade and has had acid poured in his face while out for a run near his base in west London.
The Irish Guardsman was out running on Tuesday evening when three men attacked him near Cavalry Barracks in Hounslow.
Army insiders have claimed the soldier in his 30s, who has not been named, may have been left with damaged sight in one eye as a result of the attack.
The Met police are said to be treating the incident as a “robbery gone wrong” after the soldier had his Apple watch stolen, according to various sources.
An insider told The Sun :
“He was just out for a run. He wasn’t in Army gear or clothes that suggested he was Forces.
“Not far from his base, three men jumped him, and he had something sprayed in his face, and his arm and stomach were cut.
“Cops are certain it’s not terror, and everyone on the base is being told it’s not terror, but it’s hard not to think of Lee Rigby when something like this happens.
“Officers say it was a robbery gone wrong. There have been similar incidents in the area.”
The soldier reportedly managed to get back to his barracks to raise the alarm.
An Army spokesman confirmed the Met Police had launched an investigation.
The Met confirmed the incident was not being treated as terrorism-related and that inquiries were ongoing.
