BREAKING: Four People Stabbed At The Arndale Shopping Centre | Manchester

Police say four people have been stabbed during an incident in the Arndale Shopping Centre (Manchester)

A statement released by Greater Manchester Police said:

“We are currently responding to an incident at the Arndale Shopping Centre in Manchester City Centre.

“Officers are in attendance, and early enquiries suggest that several people have been stabbed.

“A man in his early 40s has been arrested on suspicion of serious assault.

“He has been taken to custody for questioning.

“In these early stages, we are keeping an open mind about the motivation of this terrible incident and the circumstances as we know them”.

The Arndale Centre has been evacuated by the police and officers from the North West Counter Terrorism Police are leading the investigation.

An eyewitness told Sky News that the fire alarms at the shopping centre were sounding and that shops had closed their shutters during the incident.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said:

“We are dealing with an incident in Manchester city centre.

“We have a number of resources at the scene and we are working with our emergency service partners to manage the incident.

“We can confirm that four people have been stabbed and taken to hospital”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:

“Shocked by the incident in Manchester and my thoughts are with the injured and all those affected.

“Thank you to our excellent emergency services who responded and who are now investigating what happened”.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a rendezvous point for the emergency services has been established at Piccadilly Gardens.
