A man who died following a two-vehicle collision near Sedbergh on Monday (September 16) has been identified as off-duty police officer PC Oli Evans, 27.
PC Evans was riding a Triumph motorcycle when a collision took place involving a Peugeot van on the A683 at Middleton at 4.40 pm.
Police have confirmed that PC Evans was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the van, a man, was not injured.
Investigating officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any dashcam footage of the incident, or the vehicles involved before the collision, to get in touch.
An investigation is underway into the collision, and anyone with information can contact officers on 101, with the information for the attention of PC 1947 Pete Ross or Sergeant 1962 Stephen Vickers.
PC Evans was based on the ‘constabulary’s Mobile Support Group at Kendal.
Cumbria’s Chief Constable Michelle Skeer has spoken about the death of off-duty PC Oli Evans.
She said:
“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the tragic death of Oli.
“All our thoughts at Cumbria Constabulary are with ‘Oli’s family and friends at this difficult time and our heartfelt condolences go out to them.
“Oli was a dedicated, professional officer who was well-liked by his colleagues.
“Any death within the police family hits us all hard but will have particular impact on those who knew and worked closely alongside Oli.”
